Five rooms needed in your new home. Here is a short list of the most desirable and most useful rooms that will make your home more functional and inviting.

We all have to select the rooms in our home within our budget, but here are some of the best features a home can have.

1.  Walk-in-robe

In every new home, you can’t go past not having a walk-in-robe. This creates so much more space in the master bedroom and offers so much more storage and functionality. It also offers the home more sophistication and class, while not being an overly expensive extra in a home.

A walk-in-robe can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you’ll find it can be easily added to most new homes. It is trending as a very popular feature and we believe it’s here to stay!

2.  Butler pantry/Walk-in-pantry

This is a wonderful feature in any new home. A butler pantry is such a highly desirable inclusion, but it does come at a cost. To have a hidden second kitchen that offers an oven, cooking stove, rangehood, stone benchtops and storage, you will need the budget. The butler pantry is an excellent way to declutter your kitchen. The kitchen has become the most used room in the house. People use it beyond cooking. If you can create more storage, the kitchen will ooze more class and look bigger when its cleaner!

The walk-in-pantry is a much cheaper alternative. It doesn’t feature any cooking appliances, but it offers a lot of storage and can be a great area to store your refrigerator too. It can be squeezed in within most new homes. Using a sliding door entry is also helpful as it takes up less space and allows for more storage. It is also common not to have a door entry and to leave it as an open area that looks like a hallway from the kitchen.

3.  Office/Study

Since the long extensive home lockdowns through the global pandemic, many people were limited to work from home. Many have continued to the trend of working from home, particular white collar/office workers. The office/study room is a fantastic addition to a new home. Even a study nook can be the perfect fit. If the internal size is big enough, it can be quite easy to fit a office/study within a home. It doesn’t require much in terms of a fitout as you can buy or build a office desk to suit your employment needs.

4.  Second living room/sitting room

This is something that can be a life changer in a how. As we see more multi-generational homes, a second living space will help separate families in having their own private space. It also works well with adolescence kids who are up late or want to watch something that takes no interest to the parents.

A second living room can be located at the front of a single story home with the open floor plan at the back. If its a double storey residence, you can have the second living room upstairs near their bedrooms. They can use it for gaming, school work or simply to watch television with their friends.

If you’re planning to use the landing as an extra living area, consider a built-in entertainment unit that can provide storage for books, toys and games without closing off the space entirely. A built-in desk and shelving is another great option, particularly for homes without a dedicated study or home office.

5.  Ground-floor bathroom

The last of our five rooms needed in your new home is a ground floor bathroom. Every home obviously needs a bathroom. In a standard four bedroom single storey home, you’ll usually include two bathrooms (one being an en-suite). If you are building a double storey, its an absolute must to have a bathroom downstairs. If the open living space is downstairs, the last thing you want is to keep going upstairs. Having three bathrooms in a double storey seems the best fit for most.
