Some tips to keeping warm this winter

Market_Insights
Melbourne was blessed with a colourful Autumn, but now winter is upon us and the cold and frosty mornings are already here. Some love the raining nights while being tucked under a warm heavy blanket while others simply freeze no matter what they wear or do… Here are a some tips to keeping warm this winter.

Check your heater

The heater hasn’t been on for while and it may have collected some dust over the last six months. As Autumn is a little windier you may find more dust around the home than usual. Before winter gets too cold, its a good time to get your heater checked and look to find out if it needs a service. If its going to be on more often, you will want to make sure its operating safely and efficiently.

If you are renting, touch base with your property manager. They can consult the landlord and have it checked professionally.

Add some rugs to warm the floor

Most modern homes from Apartments to Townhouses include timber flooring in the living areas. They look fantastic and provide a very hygienic living style, but get awfully cold in winter. A nice way o keeping warm is to buy a woolen rug.  Adding a rug can help trap the heat inside and is also nicer on your feet. A good quality rug can be also well used in the warmer seasons.

Open your window furnishings

Winter may be cold, but it still has the wonderful sun shining in the sky. When you wake up in the mornings, open up your blinds/curtains and allow the sun light to come in. The natural warmth will help the temperature of your home. Once nightfall appears, its a good idea to shut the blinds/curtains to try and keep the warmth inside until the morning sunrise comes back.

It’s time to rug up

Buying an extra blanket and buying some new winter pajamas will help keep your body warm. Even a pair of new socks or slippers can go a long way to keep your body regulated without needing the heater on all day long.

Buy some door stoppers

As blinds or curtains stop the breeze from coming through the windows, door stoppers provide a similar purpose. Door stoppers limit the cold air fro coming through the bottom of the door. You’ll be surprised how much cold air comes through. They can of course be annoying if you have children running in and out of the house all day, but they work a treat in the evenings.

Keep doors closed

This is more beneficial for larger properties, but a simple tip to keeping warm is closing doors to rooms not being used or needed heated. Some rooms that often don’t need heat are laundries, a spare bedroom or a hallway. Each to their own preference, but a toilet or en-suite can bring lots of cold air in. However some may says, I like my toilet and bathroom warm if I am planning to take a shower.

We hope these helpful tips to keeping warm this winter help.
