As Crest Property Investments we have grown to love and understand Fengshui.

We have client’s using this ancient perception to make good investment property decisions. It’s not used for everybody when investing in property, but here we take a moment to share some information on this ancient philosophy. Note this doesn’t even scratch the surface of what we see as a special tradition.

What is Fengshui?

Fengshui, or Chinese geomancy, is an ancient Chinese perception of tangible elements (including environment, geography, and landscape) and intangible elements (such as Chi, yin-yang, positive & negative energy and elements of every object in life). It is traditionally utilised by trained or certified fengshui masters to determine the location of palaces, tombs, villages or houses. Contemporary fengshui covers a wider range of subjects from the general shape and orientation of a property, the interior design including items in the home and the structure of property’s exterior. A correct Fengshui is believed to bring prosperity, harmony and fortune to the resident.

Chi Energy

The key focus of Fengshui is Chi (氣). This represents the energy flowing around us. It flows through various natures such as rivers, mountains, natural landscaping of valleys and meadows.

The Chi energy has two sides like batteries, Yin (anode) and Yang (cathode), and within Yin-Yang there are five elements (fire, earth, metal, water and wood). When both sides of the chi are balanced, elements support and strengthen each other to create a harmonious environment within the household.

On the other hand, if either positive or negative chi is stronger, the element control can weaken or even be destroyed by each other. This will lead to chaos and can cause problems such as sickness and arguments to name a few. In order to adjust and govern chi, fengshui masters utilize special compasses which have the five elements assigned to each of its direction to detect the flow of the chi in and chi out of the property.

Fengshui Rules

Fengshui has established a set of very complicated rules throughout its long history of development. Here is a glance of these complicated rules:

  1. Avoid building or buying property near places such as prisons, power stations or landfill. These places are believed to generate decaying, disease or stagnant energy. Such energy is called Sha Chi (煞氣) which represents an extremely harmful environment or negative Chi. When Sha Chi accumulates the negative energy will flow through and bring misfortune or sickness to the household.
  2. Avoid building or buying property that has too many obstacles in front. These obstacles include a tall wall, a building built opposite the property, big trees, mountains or any other objects that is either too close or overshadows the property. This also means any form of object blocking the view of the front door of the house. They are believed to prevent the natural flow of Chi and the flow of good fortune.
  3. Avoid building or buying property that doesn’t generate sufficient natural light. The lack of sunlight will make the Yin (anode) side of Chi stronger and causes an imbalance inside of the property. Beside the negative effect of obstructing wealth and success at work, it also increases the chance of having mold inside the house and can lead to a health issue in the family.

There are many other rules in Fengshui that investigate many aspects of the property. The detail can focus on the smallest aspect such as a little decoration on your table. It is recommended to hire a qualified and reputable Fengshui master to avoid applying the wrong adjustments. With proper knowledge and skills, almost all the Fengshui mistakes can be corrected by implementing various Fengshui talismans or objects in life (such as furniture).
