Victoria is rezoning 12 new suburbs to potentially house up to 50,000 people to meet the demands of our increasing population. Tim Pallas, treasurer announced that these suburbs located in Melbourne’s west, north, northwest and south east will set motion plans to build new communities. Pallas went on to say, ‘this is critical for keeping house and land packages affordable’.
The new communities could potentially also support 50,000 jobs, with Officerin the south eastern suburbs having a new employment precinct that may feature more than 20,000 new jobs. Kalkallo and Beveridge will also see potential new jobs in excess of 13,000.
The new suburbs will include:
- Aviators Field – 25kms south west
- Beveridge North West – 42kms north
- Craigieburn West – 35kms north
- Croskell – 39kms south east
- Kororoit Part 2 – 29kms west
- LindumVale – 32 kms north
- Merrifield – 46kms north
- Officer – 54 kms south east
- Pakenahm – 56kms south east
- Shenstone – 33kms north
- Wallan East – 45kms north
Early earthworks are estimated to commence within the next four years, involving all twelve sites.
